Q: What is a Notary Public?


 

A: A Notary Public is a person of proven integrity appointed by the government to serve the public as an impartial witness in taking acknowledgments, administering oaths and affirmations, and performing other acts authorized by law.

 

Q: What is a Mobile Notary? 


 

A: A Mobile Notary is a Notary Public who travels to a designated location to meet with clients and complete notarizations.

 

Q: What is a Signing Agent?


 

A: A Signing Agent is a Notary Public who has completed additional training and is specialized in completing loan signings. 

 

Q: What are acceptable forms of Identification?


 

A: Any of the following forms of identification are acceptable, provided that they are current.

 

     California Driver's License
     California Identification Card
     Two credible witness's (for a person who does not have current ID)
     Mexico Driver's license
     US Passport
     US Military ID Card
     Inmate ID Card
     Other State Driver's License
     Other State Identification card
     Foreign Passports stamped by USCIS
     ID card issued by the USCIS (Notarization of USCIS forms only)
 

 

Q: What do I need to do before I meet with the Notary Public?   


 

A: First – Review the document(s) that that are to be notarized.  Make sure that all documents are complete with no blanks and that all information is correct. 

 

    Second – Bring an acceptable form of identification or two credible witnesses to the signing.  

 

    Third – For loan signings:

 

1.)   Provide Notary with a photo copy of a CADL or acceptable I.D. for all signers on the loan and bring original I.D. to the signing. 

 

2.)   Provide Notary with any funds due at closing.  (Check with Escrow Co. or Lender)

 

3.)   Provide Notary with any additional documentation required.  ie. W-2, Pay stub, Cash-out Letter (Check with Loan Officer or Lender)

 

4.)   Bring property insurance information to the signing as this information is often needed when completing loan documents.    

 

5.)   Bring after hours contact numbers for your Broker/Loan Officer/Lender incase you have questions during the signing.

 

6.)   If you receive the loan documents before meeting with the notary, please review them for accuracy.  Check to be sure that the borrowers’ names, dates, property address, interest rate, etc. are correct.

 

7.)   If you receive the loan documents before meeting with the notary, please complete documents with missing information and make sure that no lines are left blank.
